Respiratory Management

Stage 1: Patient/care giver education in disease management, emphasis on preventative care (immunizations, regular doctor visits) airway clearance strategies, monitoring respiratory function
Stage 2: Train & have caregivers implement an airway clearance regimen (cough assist). Manual volume recruitment/deep lung inflation
Stage 3: Nocturnal NIVf for respiratory insufficiency and or sleep-disorder breathing/ possibly training home ventilation
Stage 4: Daytime NIV (when PETCO2 is > 50 mmHg,SpO2 <92%, when patient is awake) Tracheostomy if NIV is contraindicated, training for continuous ventilatory support in the home
