Coagulation and Medications
Platelet aggregation inhibitor (less sticky)
NOT and anticoagulant
10 Days without asprin before surgery
Used in pts. with history of stroke, chest pain, and stents (use at least 325 mg)
Use interic coated with GI pts.
Decrease occurrence of atherosclerotic events in pts. at risk
Inhibits platelet aggregation
Goes together with Aspirin (Synergistic) with stent pts.
Does NOT come coated
Can cause bruising
Interferes with hepatic synthesis of Vit. K+ dependent clotting factors
PT and INR
Vit. k+ as anadote
Used with new a-fib pts.
IV or Subcut.
Used with A-fib, PE, DVT, or MI pts.
Does NOT break up a clot => Prevents extending of a clot
APPT and PTT with IV Heparin
Protamine Sulfate is the anadote
Low molecule weight: No labs drawn
Usually given to someone after hip, knee, or stomach surgery to prevent clots
Sequential devices started
Moderate Risk; Subcut. Heperin/Lovenox
1 & 2 Precautions added
