We Live By The Sea
Lighting
-
-
e.g. torches on water bottle to create underwater scene/ Torches to search for Katy / disco light at the end /
-
-
Use of lighting for atmosphere, rather than symbol or illumination
-
Sound/Music
-
-
-
Seas noises were frequent to set the scene and represent her love of the sea - they live there, also Dad lost as sea, cleansing, etc etc
-
Music was childlike, simple - Katy is only 15 - but is she developmentally younger?
-
-
Projection
-
Scene-setting - e.g. when we were meant to be at the beach, beach scenes projected
-
-
Set/Staging
-
Simple props, transformed
-
Audience configuration was problematic in terms of sight-lines, however allowed the members to view each other
-
Acting
As the audience enters, they are tapped on the shoe. Immersive as soon as the door open.
-
Brechtian choice to never reveal actors, but stay completely in character
-
Katy: characterisation was impeccable - depth of character was comprehensive in body and voice. Almost Method acting.
-
Paul Williams: she represented both the voice of Katy and the voice of the audience. Acted as a narrative sometimes. Also demonstrated behaviours of Autism.
-
Directorial Concept
Grotowski and Poor Theatre's Object Transformation
-
"after transformation, objects were often symbolic and/or of great significance"
-
-
-
-
Brecht's Epic Theatre
-
-
Actors sat with the audience, involved the audience
