Assessments
Interim/Benchmark
This type of assessment is used to see if students are where they are supposed to be and helps determine where they will be in the future by being able to compare all students grades.
Example: End of Year Exam, STAAR (standarized test)
-
Performance
Students can show what they learned by performing a task instead of completing a multiple choice test. It is more of an authentic way to test students knowledge by allowing them to show what they know.
Example: Portfolio, Presentation
-
Formative
This type of assessment is to monitor student learning during the unit to be able to see what they have mastered and what they still do not know. It allows teachers to give feedback and plan the rest of the unit accordingly.
Example: Exit Ticket, Concept Map
Summative
This type of assessment is used to show what students have learned by the end of a unit. They are considered high stake tests.
Example: Final project, Midterm Exam
Diagnostic
Also known as pre-assessment that students complete prior to a lesson or unit that helps teachers know what the students know about the content coming up. A teacher can plan the lessons around what they scored lower on.
Examples: Unit pre-test, Questionaire
