- - - - Stalin wanted the USSR's borders to move westwards towards Poland.
      - Churchill didn't approve of Stalin's plans for Poland, although he also knew that there wasn't very much he could do about it because of Stalin's Red Army.
      - Roosevelt was unhappy with Stalin's plan, however Churchill persuaded him to accept it as long as Stalin agreed not to interfere with Greece (where the British were attempting to prevent the Communist taking over).
  - - - At first it was celebrated in America as it was viewed as the proof of spirit of US. However, after the death of Roosevelt many of Americans began criticizing Roovelts handling the Yalta negotiations
- - - - Stalin had come to believe more strongly that the United States and Great Britain were conspiring against the Soviet Union.
      - As for Churchill, he was not present for the closing ceremonies. His party lost in the elections in England and was replaced midway through the conference by the new prime minister, Clement Attlee.
      - By the time it was over, Truman had become even more convinced that he had to adopt a tough policy toward the Soviets.
      - They struggled to agree on the post-war fate of Poland, the revision of its frontiers and those of Germany, and how to get rid of the many millions of Germans from Eastern Europe. The Russians and the Western Allies were never going to agree on a democratic Poland and it was turned over to the Council of Foreign Ministers to try and resolve.
      - It was decided that Germany would be occupied by the Americans, British, French and Soviets. It would also be demilitarised and disarmed.
      - As expected, given the path that the discussions took at Potsdam, the conference proved to be not only the first “Big Three” peace conference after the defeat of Germany but also the last. The conference is best remembered as a noble but tortuous effort that did less to pave the way to peace than to mark the beginning of an entirely new conflict and war altogether.
