Unit Four
Forces and Motion
Interaction of Force and Mass
Friction
An unbalanced force
Friction causes a change in an object's motion
Inertia
Inertia is an object's resistance to change in its motion
Force
Unbalanced Force
Causes an object to change its motion
Balanced Force
All forces are balanced and cancel out, an object is not in motion
Measured in Newtons(N)
Newton's Laws of Motion
Newton's Third Law of Motion
States that for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction.
Newton's Second Law of Motion
The force of an object is equal to its mass multiplied by its acceleration. This could be written as F = ma.
Newton's First Law of Motion
An object in motion, will stay in motion, and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Gravity
A gravitational force exists between any, and all, objects in the universe.
Gravity also give's objects their weight.
Whereas, mass is the measurement of the amount of matter of an object
Weight is the measurement of the pull of gravity on an object
Gravity is an invisible force by which masses attract one another.
Straight Line Motion
Velocity
Velocity is the measure of the direction and rate of travel of an object
Speed
Speed is the distance that an object traveled in a certain amount of time
The formula can be written as S = d / t, which means Speed equals distance divided by time.
