Reflection: One that caught my eye is the qualifications issue. According to Simonson, Smaldino, & Zvacek, "the qualifications of a distant instructor are not always articulated" (2014, p. 180). I feel like that is sometimes felt from the student's end. I have taken some DE courses that were very poorly designed, and it made me wonder why that instructor was teaching DE to begin with. I also begin to wonder how many DE instructors have taken ANY kind of classes to help them prepare for DE teaching. Shouldn't it be a requirement? Shouldn't there be a license or certification? And the requirements are low, doesn't that mean that the quality of the education could be low? I really do have an interest in teaching DE one day, but I want to feel prepared (which is part of the reason I am taking a class like this), but do all DE teachers feel the same? Sometimes it seems like they don't.
