Toledo sent additional forces + stocked the islands with provisions, arms and powder.
It took the Turks 1 month and 6,000 men to subdue St Elmo (June 23).
-
Mustapha Pasha (military leader): "What will the parent cost when the child has been purchased at such a price!"
Attacking Birgu-Senglea
The Turks charged into a breach on the Birgu land-front only to encounter a secondary wall and the attackers were caught in the space while the defenders poured down boiling pitch, scalding water and inflammables.
Toni Bajada made many journeys from Brigu to Mdina and back as a scout who knew the movements of the Turks on the island.
