Homeostasis
-
Stimuli
A stimulus can be light, sound, touch, heat, pain and many other stimuli
-
The Eye
Parts of the eye
-
-
-
-
Retina - The layer at the back of the eye that contains two types of light receptor cells, one is sensitive to colour the other is sensitive to light intensity
-
-
-
Iris reflex
-
When light receptors sense a very bright light the muscles in the iris contract making the pupil smaller, letting less light into the eye
Accommodation
-
When looking at near objects the ciliary muscles contract, this makes the lens become more curved which increases the more light it refracts
When your eye focuses on distant objects, your ciliary muscles relax and the lens becomes less curved. So it refracts less light.

Synapses and Reflexes
-
Reflexes
Reflexes are fast automatic responses to certain stimuli, they bypass your conscious brain completely
-
The brain
-
Parts of the brain
Cerebral cortex
Responsible for intelligence, language and memory
