When Germany surrenders in ww1, there were a lot of things that need to be changed and repaired. This leads to the Treaty of Versailles that was made by The Big Three - DLG, WW, GC. However, many people think it was unfair and here were there reasons why.
Germany did most of the damaging since they left the war last and they were one of the main reason why AH declared war (alliances). They gave Austria a “blank cheque” & attacked Belgium. (Schlieffen plan)It’s not totally Germany’s fault because it was Austria-Hungary who declared war on Serbia and Germany was only helping AH, so why did it say they had caused “all loss and damages” and should take “full blame” (Clause 231 ToV). Russia was the first to mobilize troops.
Because Germany had to take full blame, they had to pay the most. However it wasn't totally Germany's fault, but they still need to pay an immense amount of money.
Just like any other wars, one side has to pay for the damage they’ve caused. In this case, they fought in France so they have to pay the farmland money and to the other countries, they have to pay for the weapons and army.
The money might be too much since it took Germany 89 years to pay all the money. The Big Three didn’t have a precise measurement of how much money Germany has to pay so it could be too much compared to how much damage there is.
France always wanted to make Germany weaker. One way is to make them economically unstable, another way they did it is the get rid of most of the army.
France wanted Germany to be weaker than France so they can’t attack France again. The other two wanted peace so they also wanted to make the army & navy smaller. Germany is a big country but if they only have 100,000 men in the army and a small number of transportations. They said they’re weak and can’t fight back to small countries (which was unfair of Wilson since the 4th point of the 14 points was that Germany still needs an army for domestic safety) and can’t even join the LoN which made it harder for them.
Conclusion - In my opinion, I think the ToV is unfair for Germany because they had to take all the blame, pay all the money and get rid of most of their arms.Reparations - (Social factor) - The workforce is really low (less than 30% until 1932) because people were stressed - no money to pay (Economic) - Damage Germany for a really long time. It made Germany really salty and didn't really effect Germany much afterwards (before ww2
