Impairment or disability?
First, I would asses the student
with some of the questions presented
in these different areas :check:
Visual (V)
Visual spatial (VS)
Auditory (A)
Organization (O)
Language (L)
Attention (AT)
Memory (M)
Math (M)
1 more item...
If I suspect something
is wrong :red_flag:
I would make a referral
or request for an evaluation
Next, contact the parents and get
their permission/consent
After the child is evaluated
by a professional in the field,
see about what my role is next
Work with the counselor about
what I can do in the classroom using accommodations
to help the student
Then, implement the IEP
and be observant if the IEP
is working and how well it
is going :fountain_pen:
Provide feedback to the counselor
and keep in close communication with
the parents
Always being aware of
the student and their
emotional wellbeing
through the process
Hopefully, all of this will allow the student
to feel comfortable and progress like
everyone else in the class
Do research about the specific impairment
or disability so I can contribute
to the team
Use DI techniques specific to the
impairment or disability
No matter the diagnosis, think about ways
to adjust the class for this student
Do research on potential ways to
differentiate the class
Be more observant with the student
for any changes
I would keep as many notes and get
as much documentation as I can :pen:
