Le Cell
What is it
the smallest structural unit of an organism
Made up of
organelles
it consists of a protoplasm
CELL SURFACE
MEMBRANE
semi-permeable phospholipid bilayer around the cell that controls all movements of substance going inside or out
also known as
plasma membrane
CYTOPLASM
jelly like substance that is the medium for the organelles
ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
RER for short, it is the organelle that has small particles called ribosomes on them. It is responsible for the translation of proteins.
the ribosomes are transported to the Golgi Apparatus in vesicles
The Golgi Apparatus chemically modifies and repackages the ribosomes.
SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
SER for short, it does not have ribosomes attatched to it. It is responsible for photosynthesizing steroids and fats.
RIBOSOMES
small particles that makes proteins.
They can move freely in the cell or be attatched to the ER
MITOCHONDRIA
site for Aerobic Respiration
CHLOROPLASTS
Only found in the Plant Cells, it contains chlorophyll that gives it's green pigment and captures sunlight to make food
VACOULE
stores substances in the cell
NUCLEUS
it controls all internal cell activities and contains it's genetic information
parts that makes up the nucleus are...
NUCLEAR ENVELOPE
( aka the Nucleur Membrane )
1 more item...
NUCLEOPLASM
dense material within the nucleus
NUCLEOLUS
plays a part in the making of proteins
What
are
organelles
an organelle is a structural feature of a cell.
each organelle has it's own function
2 types of cell
prokaryotic
e.g.
Bacteria
eukaryotic
Plant Cell
Has a
CELL WALL
and
CHLOROPLASTS
THE CELL WALL
is a layer around the plant cell that gives it a proper structure and shape
P.C. has a large central vacuole
Animal Cell
does
NOT
have a
CELL WALL
Vacuoles are divided into small parts in the animal cell
does
NOT
have
CHLOROPLASTS
How can we see a cell?
Cells can not be seen with a naked eye
THEREFORE WE USE A MICROSCOPE
Electron Microscope
magnifies objects to more than 200 000X and produces balck and white images
Light Microscope
Magnifies objects up to 1000X and produces coloured images
A CAMERA can be places under a microscope. The photograph is called a micrograph
