Students is falling below benchmarks and is not making progress. Student is discussed by teacher and dean during weekly check-in. Teacher and dean should identify strengths and weaknesses of student, and identify strategies for supporting the student and implement immediate support.
The student is not making progress with intervention and support after 6-8 weeks. SST (Student Study Team) process begins.
Step 1, SST and Intervention Plan: Hold an SST meeting with Academic Director, Dean, Special Education Coordinator, teacher and parents to discuss observed strengths and weaknesses and next steps for supporting the student over the following 6 - 8 weeks.
Step 2, Identification/Evaluation: At the conclusion of the monitoring period, if the student‘s achievement has not improved sufficiently, we will request parent consent for referral for Special Education evaluation and testing for disabilities.
Step 3, Determine Eligibility There are two criteria that must be met for a child to be eligible for special education.
-
The child, by reason thereof, need special education and related services
-
The student is making progress! Celebrate a little. Continue to support the student and slowly take away extra services as the student grows new skills.
