Unit 7
Central Dogma- process in which proteins are made
Transcription- how information DNA is turned into information that RNA can take to ribosomes
RNA- allows information from DNA to be made into proteins
mRNA- transports information from DNA out of the cell
tRNA- takes amino acids to ribosomes
rRNA- helps makes proteins, binds amino acids
DNA- holds genetic information, which can be used to make proteins
Translation- information from RNA is taken to ribosomes and is used to make proteins
Gene sequence- order of nucleotides in a DNA structure
Biotechnology-use of biology for industrial purposes, such as making medication
Mutations- changes in codon sequence that affect proteins
Insertion: in which a codon is added to the sequence
Deletion: in which a codon is taken away from the sequence
Substitution- in which a codon is replaced with a different codon
Protiens
Amino acids- help make proteins, carried by tRNA
Polypeptides- Amino acid residues bonded together by rRNA
Ribosomes- make proteins
Plasmid- helps replicate proteins
