Canine anatomy
-
-
Duodenum
-
-
-
Peritoneal attachments - Mesoduodenum, duodeno-colid fold, hepato-duodenal ligament (part of lesser omentum)
-
-
Liver
-
Peritoneal attachments - Coronary ligament, right & left triangular ligaments, falciform/round ligament
4 lobes - Right and left, caudate (papillary process) and quadrate. (L&R split into medial and lateral in dog)
Caecum
First part of large intestine, blind-ending sac
In dog, ileum runs directly into colon with caecum attached on side
-
Peritoneum
-
Single continuous sheet
Visceral - Closely adherent to organ surface, envelops organs
-
Parietal - Closely adherent to abdo wall, extends through inguinal canal
Cavities
-
Peritoneal cavity - Potential space between parietal and visceral peritoneum. Small amount of peritoneal fluid
Stomach
3 areas - Fundus = blind-ending, corpus = body, pylorus (pyloric antrum)
Peritoneal attachments - Gastro-splenic ligament, Greater omentum, lesser omentum
Pancreas
2 lobes - Right lobe in cranio-caudal direction, left lobe running medio-laterally
Peritoneal attachments - Right lobe within mesoduodenum, left lobe within deep lead of greater omentum
Jejunum
Middle part of small intestine, largest proportion, covered by greater omentum
Meso-jejunum (often referred to as mesentery), fan shaped
Ileum
Terminal portion of small intestine, enters into large intestine at caeco-colic junction
