Proteins
-
Peptide linkage
When two amino acids come together, the amino group and carboxyl group form a bond together, release H2O and form a bond between carbon and nitrogen. (condensation process) (Covalently bonded)
after they bond together, it is called as polypeptide molecule. The first amino acid group would be called a N terminus (amin group) and the last amino acid group would be called a C terminus. (carboxyl group)
secondary structure
alpha helix
Right hand coil, resulting from hydrogen bonding between N-H, and C=O groups on another
-
Primary structure
amino acids are bonded together by C-N bond, the polypeptide. The sequence is always N-C-C, N-C-C.
-
quaternary structure
Results from the interactions of subunits by hydrophobic interactions, van der Wal forces, ionic attractions, and hydrogen bonds.
