The American Association of University Professors states: “Intellectual property created, made, or originated by a faculty member shall be the sole and exclusive property of the faculty, author, or inventor, except as he or she may voluntarily choose to transfer such property, in full, or in part” (Kranch, 2008, p. 352). The AAUP gives three conditions for college or university to claim copyright. If the university directed the faculty to produce something or copy right has been signed over. Finally, if the university has provided additional resources/staff to help in the creation of a distance education course (Kranch, 2008, p. 353)
