I took a lot from this chapter, not surprisingly as I believe this to be the most important part of teaching. Something that stuck out to me was the research based point that relationships are necessary to foster high level critical thinking (Cornelius-White, 2007; Pianta, Hamre, & Allen, 2012; Sutpnisky, Renaude, Daniels, Haynes, & Perry, 2008). I believe that has a lot to do with trusting the environment and instructor in order to be confident to share ideas without ridicule.
Value of Relationships
" However, those students who have close, positive and supportive relationships with their teachers will attain higher levels of achievement than those students with more conflict in their relationships."
