- - - - Henry VIII issued a proclamation of isolation. Houses with infected inhabitants should be clearly identified. If an infected person left the house they had to carry a white stick so people knew to avoid the in the streets.
      - In 1518 mayors and aldermen in all England's towns were expected to take action when a plague struck.
      - Some corporations started to isolate plague victims into 'pesthouses' outside of towns.
      - In York they introduced Watchmen on the bridge to stop the movement of infected people across the town. They also appointed Searchers to bury the dead and clean infected houses.
    - - Plague orders were issued in 1578. the 7 orders said that Justices and aldermen were to meet every 3 weeks, parishes must appoint viewers and searchers to see how the infected were doing, Aldermen collected money for the sick, there were special prayers in churches, streets and alleys were to be cleaned, barrels of tar were to be burned in the streets, no cats or dogs or tame pigeons were allowed on the streets, clothes ad bedding of the dead were to be burned, funerals should take place at dusk, infected houses were to be locked for up to 6 weeks and watchmen were employed to enforce this.
      - Pest houses were still used.
    - - In 1604 new plague orders were extended to help provide for the sick families. People were able to collect money from parishes in a 5 miles radius. Harsh punishments were introduced to people who left isolation. A plague victim found outside their house would be hanged. Healthy people who left and infected person's house would be whipped. Pest houses were built to keep plague victims in. Cats and dogs were killed to stop the spread of disease. By the 17th century the policy of isolation changed to gve the people food and fresh water.
