Plague orders were issued in 1578. the 7 orders said that Justices and aldermen were to meet every 3 weeks, parishes must appoint viewers and searchers to see how the infected were doing, Aldermen collected money for the sick, there were special prayers in churches, streets and alleys were to be cleaned, barrels of tar were to be burned in the streets, no cats or dogs or tame pigeons were allowed on the streets, clothes ad bedding of the dead were to be burned, funerals should take place at dusk, infected houses were to be locked for up to 6 weeks and watchmen were employed to enforce this.
