Pre-assessment for Differentiation for Right Triangle Trigonometry in Geometry
Level 1: Students with limited knowledge about solving proportions and simplifying square root
Differentiation - Flash Cards or Quizlet: Based on the pre-assessment, these students have limited knowledge of solving proportions and simplifying square root problems needed to succeed in Chapter 8 Right Triangle Trigonometry. Differentiation strategies will focus on scaffolding. For example: Reviewing terminology, diagrams, definitions, Postulates and Theorems from previous Chapters and terminology and example problems from Algebra.
Differentiation - Utilizing the Whole Class: Vocabulary, Postulates and Theorems will be introduced and discussed during the pair-think-share part of class for additional peer support.
Formative Assessment: During class time students will be formatively assessed through Q&A, homework questions, white board checks and exit tickets.
Differentiation - Khan Academy online practice in addition to homework problems. Students in Level 1 will need to show all steps in solving Right Triangles and Trigonometric problems for additional feedback and support.
Level 2: Students with some knowledge about solving proportions and simplifying square root but need to develop a higher level of thinking
Differentiation - The Pre-assessment revealed that these students had some knowledge of proportions and square root problems but still need scaffolding to achieve higher level thinking skills. Khan Academy online practice in addition to homework practice to work on problems at different levels of ability. At this level some (some work) basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division steps will not be required in solving problems.
Formative Assessment: During class time students will be formatively assessed through Q&A, homework questions, white board checks and exit tickets.
Differentiation - Utilizing the Whole Class: Vocabulary, Postulates and Theorems will be introduced and discussed during the pair-think-share part of class for additional peer support.
Differentiation - To build confidence and ability students at this level will be asked to solve problems for the class and work as a peer tutor with level 1 students.
Level 3: Students with knowledge about solving proportions and simplifying square root answering the most difficult pre-assessment problems
Formative Assessment: During class time students will be formatively assessed through Q&A, homework questions, white board checks and exit tickets.
Differentiation - The Pre-assessment revealed that these students had advanced knowledge of proportions and square root problems. Khan Academy online practice in addition to homework practice to work on problems at different levels of ability. At this level some (some work) basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division steps will not be required in solving problems.
Differentiation - Utilizing the Whole Class: Vocabulary, Postulates and Theorems will be introduced and discussed during the pair-think-share part of class for additional peer support.
Differentiation - To build confidence and ability students at this level will be asked to solve problems for the class and work as a peer tutor with level 1 students and level 2 students.
All students took a pre-assessment quiz from Kahoot to determine readiness for Chapter 8.
Students were grouped based on Kahoot data - Level 1: Limited knowledge
Level 2: Some knowledge
Level 3: Advanced knowledge
