Upon completion of this course students will:
Recognize and distinguish psychiatric disorders from psychiatric health (Classroom)
Recognize and distinguish psychiatric disorders from one another when presented with a clinical narrative (Classroom)
Recognize suicide as a public health crisis which disproportionately impacts minoritized and marginalized communities (Classroom)

Upon completion of this course students will:
Describe how racism and other forms of discrimination, results in stereotyping, bias, perpetuated false beliefs, misdiagnosis, and dangerously narrow clinical decision making, all of which lead to real health disparities. (Classroom)
Identify and manage one’s personal reactions and responses to patients that may enhance or detract from an appropriate professional relationship, which may include excessive sympathy, anger, rejection, fear, or social and cultural differences. (Optional Small Group)
Begin to describe theoretical placement of each psychiatric disorder on the spectrum of organic vs. functional, keeping in mind that social determinants of health also contributes substantially to mental health and wellbeing (referenced in class and psyche/pharm integrated session. This will be a critical framework for future treatment planning).
