Naming
Our names may shape the way others view us, how we view ourselves, and how we act.
Research suggests that the phonetics of someone's name affects the way people regard someone. Names that were simple, rhythmic, and easily pronounced won more elections compared to names that didn't.
Names can also affect a child's personal identity. For example, naming a child after a family member may create a connection with the namesake.
Names can also be a cultural statement. For example, more African-Americans are naming their babies distinctly "Black" names than before in a show of cultural solidarity.
Status
Choice of words, speech rate, apparent age of speaker and accent all affect others' perceptions of the speaker.
For example: Speakers of "Black English" are viewed as less intelligent than speakers of "Standard English"
