In what ways do the personal experiences of individuals living in an intentional community reflect shifting perspectives on cultural, societal, and environmental issues?
Why Scholarship ?
As engaged and situated scholarship the embodiment of the political/personal dynamics in housing is able to unfold through research that focuses on messiness and potentialities of housing narratives and practices. (Steele 2012)
Canadian Context
Dominated by owner occupation, private renting, and social rental housing. British Columbians are persistently concerned about affordability, alongside broader sociability (accessibility) and environmental (sustainability) concerns.

Yes, listening to CBC today on this topic of co-housing and shared housing developments in Vancouver and the designer said that the core issue is 'freedom'. People need to be able to move and live in the way they desire so flexible and creative solutions for living and moving are needed smile enjoy!
Freedom of Choice
I keep coming back to Freedom of choice being the most valuable thing that comes from having the power or ability to live differently. I think choice empowers individuals by giving them a greater sense of control, and helping shape their identities. The power to live alternatively and intentionally also allows for individuals to gain perspectives and experiences that they would not otherwise have.
