        These epithelia are common where absorption or transport of materials is important. They also play a role in diffusion, osmosis and filtration. This makes them important in the kidney, in the alveoli of lungs and in the walls of capillaries.
  - - - Disease: Basal Cell Carcinoma (common skin cancer).
- - - - Types
        
        Astrolyte
        
        Astrocytes, or astroglia, are the star shaped glial cells that reside in the brain and spinal cord. They are the most numerous cells in the human brain, performing many tasks. Astrocyte tasks include support of the cells that comprise the blood-brain barrier as well as maintaining the extracellular ion balance, supplying nutrients to nerve tissue and aiding in post-traumatic repair and scarring processes. In addition, astrocytes perform signaling tasks similar to neurons utilizing calcium ions and transmitter molecules.
        
        Microglia
        
        Microglia cells are the immune cells of the central nervous system and consequently play important roles in brain infections and inflammation.

        Neurons, also known as nerve cells, communicate within the body by transmitting electrochemical signals.
