INDIA PALESTINE
India-Palestine - India was the first non-Arab country to give support and recognize the state Palestine. The Israel-Palestine conflict has developed a notion that a country can support either of the nation. Traditionally, India has been categorical supporter of Palestine and relations with Israel were kept under the carpet. India has been at forefront for the support of Palestine at UN. Till 2014, we voted against Israel's actions in Palestine.

Reasons for the change -
-
Harsh V Pant - This re-evaluation has been based on a realisation that India's largely pro-Arab stance in the Middle East has not been adequately rewarded by the Arab world. India has received no worthwhile backing from the Arab countries in the resolution of problems it faces in its neighbourhood, especially Kashmir. There have been no serious attempts by the Arab world to put pressure on Pakistan to reign in cross-border insurgency in Kashmir.
On the contrary, the Arab nations have firmly stood by Pakistan, using the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to build support for Islamabad and the jihadi groups in Kashmir.

COMMENTS:
Harsh V Pant - A hallmark of the Modi government’s foreign policy has been a self-confident assertion of Indian interests. This is profoundly reflected in government’s moves vis-à-vis Israel. Modi govt has brought the relation out of the bag. However, India should be careful to avoid allowing its relationship with Israel to be perceived as an anti-Palestinian 'Hindu Jewish axis'.
C Raja Mohan - The Modi government has stopped viewing relations with Israel through an ideological lens and is engaging with Palestine also simultaneously. Israel has been given its due.
