Determine Context
Learners
Ask yourself, who are the learners, and how you can prepare the content to focus specifically on this group.
Learning Enviroment
Know the environment. Will it be a factory, office or classroom? Understanding the environment can help predict what graphics to use.
Delivery Medium
How the graphics will be displayed. This includes papers, books, screens, or even tablets.
Constraints
Understand what the limitations of the projects are. This could be cost, time or rules.
Define Goals
Goals should be able to inform and motivate. Skill building instructions should be offered to help build far and near transfer skills

Design Visual Approach
This is the "look and feel" of the graphics. This is the style, design and artwork.
Determine the best characteristics of the graphic. This include color, 3-D vs 2-D, fonts, and page orientation.
