'It' - Impersonal pronoun - Violence is an inhuman action that removed the thin superficial veneer of what Religion believed to be human - Purity and benevolence
'Like some Damned Juggernaut' - Ref to Krishna's chariot, a Hindu God. Ref to Godly shows how Violence is an unstoppable force. Stevenson saying how it is impossible to repress feelings of violence and we should not try or else its consequences will be worse. People would throw themselves under the chariot to escape the Cycle of Samsara and go to Nirvana - Violence is used as an action to achieve salvation and liberation however in reality, it damns both the perpetrator and victim (evident via 'Damned'). Ref to Hinduism Seen as a barbaric religion by many xenophobic Victorians - Violence is a barbaric and ritualistic action

'He smote her in the face' - Hyde's impulsive and sudden action against an innocent person - Violence is a volatile action that cannot be justified - Stevenson saying how attempts to blame your own violence are futile, you need to accept that it is an intrinsic part of man. The fact Hyde hits a woman - Violence is an action regularly used against women *Misogynistic society. Word smote is a biblical reference - Violence is omnipotent
'My devil was long caged and came our roaring' - Ref to devil shows how Violence is a hellish action. Non-finite verb - Violence is eternal.
