Variable:
Independent variable- a variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment to test the effects on the dependant variable. (intentionally change)
Dependent variable- the variable being tested and measured in a scientific experiment. (something changing based on the independent)
Groups:
Control groups- keeping everything the same (standard part)
Experimental group- pick one specific thing and change that 1 variable
Converting in the Metric
Kilo, Hecto, Deka, Base, Deci, Centi, Milli

Example: 1000 mg= 1 g; .865 km= 86,500 cm
Mixtures:
the properties of a mixture can vary because the composition of a mixture is not fixed
☆Heterogenous- the parts of the mixture are noticeably different from one another
Example: sand, guacamole
Elements
a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances
Example: gold, carbon, aluminum
Compounds
a substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into those simpler substances
Example: water
occurs when a substance reacts and forms one or more new substances
Signs of A chemical change
Odor change
Change in temperature
Change in color
Precipitate
Production of gas
Physical Changes
occurs when some of the properties of a material change, but the substances in the material stay the same

Kinetic Theory-
matter is composed of particles that are in constant motion
#
Pressure
the result of a force distributed over an area; the smaller the area of impact is, the greater the pressure produced
Volume
reducing the volume of a gas increases its pressure if the temperature of the gas and the number of particles are constant
