process
- Precipitating events: damaged cells release kinins, histamines, and other chemicals
- activations of LOCAL inflammatory cells: macrophages, dendritic cells, and mast cells
- generation of LOCAL mediators that inc vasodilation and vascular permeability such as EX: leukotrienes, histamine, prostaglandins
- recruitment and emigration of neutrophils (first responders, phagocytic cells) and plasma proteins
- Phagocytosis of antigens: bacteria, debris, dead cells (macrophages clean up dead neutrophils that die after phagocytizing an antigen)
- (if wound present) platelets seal the area w/ platelet plug formation, become sticky, etc.
- Resolution of inflammation: healing of wound, closing, cells regenerating to close wound, development of scar tissue
