Michelangelo gained his love for marble while living with a stone cutter. He studied grammar under Humanist Francesco da Urbino but he preferred
painting. In 1488
he was apprentced to Ghirlandaio, a master in fresco paining. From 1490-1492 he attended the Humanist Academy founded by the Medicis along Neo-Platonic lines.Here his work was influenced by many prominent writers and philosophers.
The Renaissance was an awakening or Rebirth and it was a renewal of learning , reform in education and a bridge between the Middle Ages and the modern world . It is best known for art and geniuses like Leonardo , Michelangelo , Dante etc. Renaissance artists were classical . They portrayed human beauty and religion mainly.''David " personifies this . The Middle Ages produced Gothic art . The Architecturce had pointed arches . Notre Dame is an example. The development of the printing press was the greatest cultural achievement of the Renaissance. It allowed writers to change from Greek and Latin to their own language.

He was known as Il Divino - the divine one. No artist surpasses him in this modern day . His figures are perfectly depicted and proportioned.They are very realistic and beautiful. He learned about the human body by dissecting corpses. He was copied by so many artists and in this way he was very influential.The influence of Greek and Roman art helped Michelangelo to make a hero out of man instead of God. David symbolized a defiance to Rome . It has become one of the greatest Humanist statements of the renaissance. A number of his works are the most famous in existence . His frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel are two of the most influential in the history of Western art.
