Communist and socialist newspapers were banned

1933 March Election

NSDAP won 288 seats

The Enabling Act

23rd March 1933

Would give Hitler and his government full powers

Act was passes but by dishonest means

Was the end of the Weimar Constitution and democracy

The Night of the Long Knives - 30th June 1934

SA had been a key party in the growth of the Nazis

SA were mostly working class who favoured the socialist views of the Nazi programme

Operation Hummingird

The Blood Purge

Rohm and the main leaders of the SA were shot by members of the SS

von Schleicher and Gregor Strasser were murdered

Approximately 400 people were murdered

Seen as the turning point for Hitler's rule in Germany
