- - - - The Company or Troupe, of Players - Troupe - a group of members who work on the production and making of the play. They would come to cities and present a repertory (a collection of plays). A famous troupe is "The Lord Chamberlain's Men" (William Shakespeare was a member of the troupe). "The Illustrious Theatre of Paris" was founded iby a great actor-writer, Moliere.
      - The Occupation of Theatre - theatre is work. A lot goes into making a production.
        
        Work - Theatre requires rehearsals for the back stage crew, the actors, and managers (4-6 weeks). It can take up to a few years to write plan and make a play. There is a great deal of writing, researching, planning, casting, designing, and creating a production team. They are mostly working back stage making sure everything runs smoothly. THIS IS IMPORTANT T T T
        
        Designing - creates the visuals of what you experience in a show including scenery, costumes, make-up, lighting, sound, programs, advertising, and location
        
        Building - the designers' vision output through carpenters, costumers, wig-makers, electricians, make-up artists, recording, sound engineering, painters, etc.
        
        Acting - the most visible and famous of the work in which they play the characters, and carry out the parts.
        
        Crewing - electricians who rehearse timing, light and sound cues, shifting scenery, changing costumes, laundering, Returning property,
        
        Directing - developing the artistic product with a vision, combining all the parts into one, and supervising rehearsals
        
        Stage Managing - "Running" the play ((in charge during playtime (a chaperone))
        
        Production - runs financing, supervising production, promotional efforts; fielding legal matters; and distributing receipts
        
        House Managing - Responsible for admission, seating, and providing hospitality to the audience.
        
        Playwriting - this is the act of actually writing the play and being inspired by the author's surroundings
        
        Composing - usually has to do with musicals and the musical part of the play
        
        This list is just a list of jobs, though workers may have more than one job.
        
        Theatre has 2 different languages "Children's Play" and the "present product of theatre work". In Latin, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Hungarian and English all have this double meaning. So it isn't work it's play.
        
        Theatre and games: They both originated from Ancient Greek events; and continue to be used in the modern age with sports shows with a heck of some drama
        
        Fun fact: Amateurs a person who acts out of love. They do it for the sake of the moment.
        
        Theatre is the art of making play into work and work into art
        
        Art (creativity, imagination, elegance, power, harmony, beauty, and emotions) Art captures something that can be related to our daily lives whether it's abstract or physical.
        
        Impersontions - actors impersonate actors; There used to be confusion with the actual person and the character they were playing, so they started using masks to tell the dif.
        
        Performance- is an action or series of actions taken for the ultimate benefit (attention, entertainment, enlightenment, or involvement) of someone else (audience).
        
        Communication - conversation between 2 people. If one is attempting to impress or involve a third person is eavesdropping they know they'll overhear, then it becomes a performance and the 3rd person is the audience
        
        Representational ((indirect(realism)) - seemed to not notice the audience is there. The audience isn't acknowledged at all. It allows the audience to look at the play/show from a dif. POV. They can take sides if they choose too, and make the audience feel the pain or joy that happens in a series of events (often putting you in a position of empathy) scripted and rehearsed event
        
        Presentational (direct) - stand up comedy, night-club mode; responding to the audience's reaction (continuously acknowledges the presence of the audience by singing to them, joking with them, and dancing for them); responding openly to them (soliloquies, direct address, and curtain call)
        
        Live Performance - In a real-time event
        
        Scripted and Rehearsed Performances - these scripts can be altered in order to make it sound better during the rehearsal or actually play
      - Building - Greek Theatre started off as an open area with seats. Then, their audience was starting to grow, so they thought sitting outside wasn't suitable for their audience. They had to rearrange the audience for the best view, and pay attention to the acoustics (the sound quality) of the room. They had to make it to where the actors were in the spotlight and the audience was in the dark, though occasionally they would have the audience interact with them. They built 3-story building full of seats and a stage.
        
        Regional Theatre - non profit, organizational, permanent,pro. theatre
        
        Community Theatre - semi-pro. and experienced and amateurs
        
        Site-Specific Theatre - theatre in a non-specific setting (fire station, church, street corners, etc)
- - - - "breaking the 4th wall" Audience members can be invited to the performance
    - - Taking the place of a character and bringing it to life.
    - - Focusing on the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How
    - - Responsible for making everything unbiased, Their perspective can be changed
    - - Used to illuminate the production; Make it look real. Usually has a theme to create a mood (like setting in a story)
