Peer Assessment
Example of a Peer Assessment.
Students or their peers grade assignments or tests based on a teacher’s benchmarks.
Advantages
Some students will support and help each-other and be able to explain something to another student in a way they understand. It can also build trust , a team atmosphere and companionship among peers
Disadvantages
Some students may feel vulnerable about having their peers know their level of knowledge. Some students may be cruel and use the knowing more about students against them (bullying)

Teachers can determine if students recall information and can use the information in a meaningful way

Some teachers teach so that students achieve higher marks on tests rather than obtain proper well rounding knowledge so they succeed in life

Gives a fuller picture of the students achievements, strengths and weaknesses

Diagnostic
Instructors with information about student's prior knowledge before a lesson. It provides a way to know how much learning has taken place during and after a lesson.

Disadvantages
I can't think of any disadvantages other then it can be overwhelming if there is a wide range of knowledge.... but this may turn into an advantage if you have the students share knowledge with each other so they are all on similar baselines... and ones that have more knowledge are not bored because they are sharing
