Power tends to corrupt, and you probably don't want to see your own future.
A. Plot
- Macbeth sends assassins to kill Banquo because of the prophecy, out of paranoia.
- Macbeth begins to become a tyrant, and goes to the witches for another prophecy. He finds that he can't be killed by anyone except someone 'not born of a woman', he should beware Macduff, and that he can't be killed until Burnham wood comes to Dunsinaine. Being empowered by this, he sends assassins to kill Macduff and his family, but Macduff had gone to England to find Malcolm.
- Macbeth assassinates King Duncan and becomes King, blaming the murder on the two princes, who flee the country. Prince Malcolm builds an army in England to one day retake Scotland.
- Finding out that Macbeth murdered his family, Macduff joins Malcolm to take back Scotland. Their army marches to Dunsinaine and Malcolm orders his men to each take foliage from the trees to mask their numbers on approach. They finally storm the castle and Macduff confronts Macbeth, where Macbeth finds out that Macduff was born via C-section. Macduff kills Macbeth and ends his rule.
- The Witches give Macbeth and Banquo a prophecy that Macbeth will become king and Banquo's sons will become king, then disappear, leaving Macbeth wondering about it
Beowulf

A. Plot
- Beowulf kills Grendel when he attacks that night and this enrages Grendel's mother.
- Grendel's mother kills Hrothgar's trusted adviser and friend, and Beowulf follows her to her cave.
- Beowulf, a hero from Geats, sails over to help Hrothgar with his problem. Due to the two nations' rivalries, nobody really likes Beowulf, and think that they don't need his help.
- Beowulf goes to her cave and kills her, saving the day and Hrothgar's kingdom.
- Hrothgar's new mead hall is being attacked every night by a monster, Grendel. All attempts to kill him fail and they begin to run out of hope for killing him.

The universe is meaningless, unless we give it meaning.
A. Plot
- Grendel meets the Dragon, with this meeting causing him to fall more and more into a nihilistic world view
- Grendel begins hating Hrothgar, attacking his mead hall repeatedly, once every night.
- When Grendel was a child, he got his leg stuck in a tree trunk and called for his mother, but she never came. This was Grendel's first step towards Nihilism.
- Beowulf kills Grendel and he eventually finds himself at the same cliff as at the beginning of the book, falling into it and dying.
- Grendel follows Grendel's ( from Beowulf ) life and what made him into the monster that he was seen as in Beowulf.
Throughout time, ideas of heroes and villains in literature have evolved.
