Compare and Contrast between Anthem and Animal Farm
Animal Farm
Plot
Snowball leads many victories but is ran out by Napoleon and he starts ruling in dictatorship
Mr. Jones is the owner of this farm, however he neglects the animals greatly. Old Major is tired of it and wants to rebel.
Once the Rebellion takes place, the animals win and gain control of the farm. The word of the Rebellion spreads and now a lot of animals around them are doing so.
Theme /Lesson
Deceitfullness
Napoleon had tricked multiple animals into working for him, they thought that it was for the benefit of the farm. However, even Boxer was sold for his work and he was the hardest worker in the farm.
Pride
Pride is what made the rebellion begin. They have great pride in their farm and wanted to keep control of it. This led them to more confidence of their land.
Corruption
The Russian Revolution was led by a dictating leader (Stalin) that had the mindset of rising to power.
Main Characters
Snowball
Wants the best for the animals, he has clever ideas to help everybody. His idea with the windmill was to give electricity to the animals so their rooms would be lit and they can get work done effectively.
Napoleon
Mean and self-centered dictator. He is lazy and never does anything for himself, but has the poor do it for him. He is sly and sneaky with his plans.
Anthem
Plot
Equality wants to give the Home of the Scholars his gift of light and electricity to the home of the scholars. Equality shows them his discovery and tells them all about the tunnel. Which made the Scholars angry and shocked since he broke all the laws. They want to punish him with death or a cruel punishment but he runs away into the Uncharted Forest.
He meets Liberty 5-3000 and falls in love with her and so does she and he gives her the nickname "The Golden One"
Equality fins the tunnel in which he stays in 3 hours a day to study. He learns way more than The Home of Scholars and he discovers electricity.
Equality 7-2521 is different from everyone else, he cannot help it. He is an intelligent and tall young man that loves to learn.
The Golden One followed him into the forest and they search for a place to live. They find one left from the Unmentionable Times and decide to live in it. Equality reads a book in the house and he learns the word "I" and about individuality.
Theme/Lesson
Identity
The people have no identity of their own, they don't even know theirselves. They even state themselves as "we" unifying themselves as one person but they don't even know who THEY are.
Individuality
Being an individual person and valuing how diverse you are from everyone else. This goes along with nowadays, The Councils turned their heads to Equality because his creativity and the fact that he was so intelligent and different from everyone else. Everyone people may turn their heads on you because you do not meet a certain criteria of (religion, race or ethnicity)
Freedom
For these individuals to become happy they had to be free from their own confinement. Which, for example, was what Equality and The Golden One had done by leaving the corrupt land. They began valued their own uniqueness
Bravery
Equality was brave enough to come out of his shell, and embrace himself and his individuality. He was the only one to risk the failure of breaking through the corrupt ideals.
Main Characters
The Golden One
Doesn't talk as much, but once you get to know her she is loving and caring.
The Councils/Home of the Scholars
Bossy, and controlling. They want everyone to be the same so they will be more supreme and in power. They don't want anybody smarter than them nor different than one way.
Equality
Persistent and Ambitious; he doesn't settle for the least and he loves to learn. So when he finds the tunnnel he uses it to the best of his ability and studies and learns way more than what the Scholars ever learned. Then he created Electricity and wanted to help his community and give them Electricity also.
