Definition: Any form of assessment that requires students to carry out an activity or produce a product in order to demonstrate learning (Woolfolk, 2013; Airasian,2005). Purpose: Performance assessments represent strategies for searching and applying knowledge, skills and work habits by performing task that are meaningful and engaging to students (Hibbard, Van Wagenen, Lewbel, Waterbury-Wyatt, Shaw, Pelletier, Larkins, Dooling, Elia, Palma, Maier, Johnson, Honan, Nelson & Wislocki, 1996).
