The Legislative Branch of Government, also known as Parliament, is a branch that has the authority to create, modify, or cancel laws.
The Senate is theoretically equal to the house of commons. Under Canada's Written constitution, any piece of Government legislation must approved by both approved by both the house of commons and the Senate for it to become an official law.
The Senate is not permitted to delay constitutional amendments passed by the House of Commons for more than 180 days, nor is it allowed to introduce bills that impose taxes or appropriate public funds.
The Senate has veto power over Parliamentary legislation and allows it to reject, offer amendments, or delay any bills which a majority of it's members disagree.
