The Ajax "Shadow Society" -- The Underground / By rivals, Corinth: "The Underbelly" of the society.
Ajax is a highly conservative and ostensibly, moral city-state. In contrast with Corinth, which is notorious for being lascivious.
-
Ajax the son was known for his obsession with raising up mythical creatures from the nether regions of the world This part of him is buried by the religious class who exalt him to curry favor among their patron god, Orion.
Ajax pursed the cultivation of mighty, dangerous creatures, the titans, which are enemies to the gods, including Orion.
Orion, and those loyal to him, deny Ajax' interest in these things.
The first destruction of Ajax, the city state, was brought about by a kraken, which the founder and Orion's son, Ajax, encouraged and fed.

The cult of the creature
Perseus is opposed to this; he's interested in executing the last of the mythical creatures as part of his legend
Livy, and the King of Corinth are strongly in favor of this movement.
Thalassa is an outcast.
Livy is cast out for overthrowing the mer-kings, Orion's sanctioned "penal" colony, the place he sends disobedient wives and female children.
-
God-like "Royalty"
Oligarchy
-
Control the land, the harbor, production of much of the cargo
-
Encouraging Cornelia to make piece with Corinth. To marry someone--perhaps the King himself-- to solidify a lasting peace.
To the fear of the Ajax "royalty" the rest of the Oligarchy is siding more with the merchants to make peace with Corinth.
-
The Merchant Class
Control the ships, trade, and money

When Solon and Aella speak on the balcony, he chastises her for not appreciating all he has done for her.He points out that, thanks to him, she has been able to remain a free citizen. And her child has not been sold into slavery. (Aella has suffered Solon throughout this time).
Before he goes out to the balcony to meet her, she looks at the statues in the balcony, carved by the first followers of Ajax, who were also interested in the cultivating relationships with the titans.
