Protein synthesis
Transcription
-
-
-
In the nucleus DNA is unzipped with helicase. RNA polymerase then adds the complimentary bases to the DNA to make the RNA molecule
Translation

A ribosome attaches to the mRNA molecule. It reads the codons (3 letter sequence). A tRNA molecule with an anticodon sequence opposite to the codon brings in an amino acid. It then detaches on the ribosome. As the ribosome moves down the mRNA it addes amino acids to make a protein

Mutations
Frameshift
-
-
Shifts the entire reading frame of the ribosome. Producing a completely different protein that is not functional.
