Becoming a volunteer firefighter.
Requirements
Age
You must be 18 to join or 17 to join the Jr. Fire department
Education
You must currently be in high school of have a basic high school diploma.
Drug screening, and background checks
To join the fire department you must not use any type of drugs or alcohol during your hours you respond to calls
You also have to be a United States citizen to join.
Saftey
Attending the fire Acadamy
In the fire Academy you learn everything there is to do your job safely. You will be in the academy for a total of 12 to 14 weeks which is a total of 600 hours.
EMT Training
Being a firefighter is a lot liking being a EMT. If someone becomes injured in a fire that training can be important because a EMT may not allays be on the scene :.
physical requirements
In order to become a firefighter you need to be able to pass the physical agility test.
This test includes stair climb, hose drag, equipment carry, ladder raise and extension, forcible entry, search, rescue, ceiling breach and pull.
You will also need to prepare mentally, because you may see some unsettling things wile on the job

Staying out of trouble
At one point in your life, you've probably done something you're not proud of. How you've acted to rectify your mistakes will be important when applying to become a firefighter.
Keep your social media clean
If you use Facebook or other social media platforms, be mindful of what you post or comment on and like. Expect all potential employers to scan your social media presence. If there’s embarrassing, immature or otherwise inappropriate posts on your pages, remove them.
Getting involved in your community
Working in public safety is all about community service. Volunteering your time for a great cause is one way to prove you're ready to serve your community. And it doesn't matter if it's fire-related or non-fire related. There's a lot of great opportunities out there for you to make a difference.
