what is sports development?
Sports development is the development of a sport that concentrates on improving performance and participation.
Also it concentrates on how sport can benefit society
there are different roles in sports development which help us progress the sport these roles are:
Sports Development Officers (Help run and create initiatives)
PE Teachers (IE Deeks)
Leaders (volunteers, people who help out)
Officials (Referee/Umpire)
Coaches (anyone who carries out training sessions)
what is the purpose of sports development?
The main focus in sports development is
increasing participation
for particular target groups
Another focus of sports development is the progression in sport, this involves developing elite athletes.
Furthermore the promotion of values in sport is heavily considered as we look for fair play, teamwork, tolerance, respect and inclusion in the sport.
Finally it has to support social policy which in our environment include anti-discrimination, crime reduction and health initiatives.
what is the sports development continuum?
Participation is the second level and this is where students choose to take part in a sport weather this be extra at school or out of school.
Performance is the third level which involves improving your sporting ability in a higher tear team maybe at county level.
Foundation is the first level which is where and individual would learn basic skills such as running jumping or hitting a ball.
Excellence is the final stage and is where you develop an excellence performance in the sport and are given opportunity to compete on a national stage.
What are Target Groups?
Types of target groups are:
Disabled people
Different ethnicity and cultures
Male and female
Different age groups
Young children ( 0-10 year-old)
Children/adolescents (11-15 years-old
Young adults (16-24 years-old)
Adults (25-50 years-old)
Over 50-years-old and retired people
Physically inactive people
