Neurons

Dendrites - Thin, branch - like ends that passes carry impulses to neighboring cells.
-
Cell body - nucleus, contains genetic material.

Neuron negatively charged when in its resting state, a stimulus causes inside of cell to become positively charged for one second causing an action potential. Creates electrical impulse that travels down axon.
Synaptic transmissions
- When electrical impulse reaches the presynaptic terminal, it triggers synaptic vesicles to release neurotransmitter.
- Chemicals diffuse across synapse & converts back to an electrical impulse at the postsynaptic receptor sites.
Serotonin caused inhibition in neighboring neuron, causing neuron to be more negatively charged and less likely to fire.

Biological rhythms
Ultradian rhythm
-
BRAC (The basic rest activity cycle) - Period of alertness followed by a state of psychological fatigue, in 90 minute cycles throughout the day.
