Altered book
Katrine, 12th grade student
Where did she get her many ideas from? Personal experience, looking at works of different artists, my passions
Change of ideas during the process of making her product - Trial and error, experiment (technique and development)
Development: Use youtube videos or other people to learn different technique like origami. Start with one idea, develop by including new ideas that you come across while experimenting
In her exhibiton there was an altered book which I found very interesting. First, we could see a contrast
between black and white then she burnt part of it. In order to
burn it she had to try in different way, which made me
understand that I should do at least two trials with my book so I don't ruin my sculpture.
The main subject of her exhibition was the Subconscious, she made different altered books using different colours and materials which made her work really interesting.
Joan Wolbier
Joan's passion for art began when she was a child. She has studied and worked as an artist in both the fine and commercial arts. She got at inspired by by Kevin Osborn and Hedi Kyle at a Writer’s Center Washington, DC.

This is my favourite altered book by Joan Wolbier because I like the effect of the flowers coming from the middle of the page and then expanding out of the book, as if they were growing in the spine of the book.
She has taught at a altered books workshop in a Boulder high school and became interested in how to destroy books instead of making them.
Malena Valcárcel
Malena Valcárcel is a spanish artist based on the Mediterranean Coast, working for years in the paper field, using it to create Book Sculptures, Paper Jewellery and elaborated constructions. (https://www.behance.net/MalenaValcarcel)
I like this art work because it is unique and I like the really 3D effect of the tree coming out of the book and standing up without support.

My IDEAS:
- After looking at these pictures and getting inspired by other artists. I think my altered book will have as a central theme flowers.
- After seeing Katrine's exhibition I think I am going to be trying to use the burning technique on the paper to create a really interesting effect.
