Hypoxia as Cell Injury
Every cell in the body needs O2 to produce ATP (adenosine tripohosphate) within the cell. If there is no ATP being produced then the cell may die (hypoxia)

One of the working parts of the cell is the Sodium Potassium Pump which usually pumps sodium (Na+) out of the cell.
water (H20) follows Na wherever it goes. So if the Na+ K Pump isn't working then water will follow Na into the cell and the concentration gradient is broken
