God's Leadership: Servant Leadership
1 Samuel 8
Samuel was getting old.
Samuel's sons were dishonest and accepted bribes.
They did not follow in their father's way.
They proposed "we want a king to be our leader, just like other nations".
What does this tell us?
Direct rejection of God as their king.
So many leaders failing to lead Israel people.
John 13:1-17 / Galatia 5:13-15
To love and serve each other.
As the cross is the sign of submission, so the towel is the sign of service.
No one wanted to be considered the least. Then Jesus took a towel and a basin and redefined greatness.
"Service"
In service, we must know the concept of "death of self".
In service, there is no "promotion",
The talent and power Jesus gave us is not for status but for "service".
Characteristics in Servant Leadership.
Listening
Seeks to listen what is being said.
Empathy
To understand and empathise with others, while accepting others.
Healing
Learning to heal oneself broken spirits and other emotional hurts.
Awareness
To be aware and able to understand issues involving ethics and values, viewing most situations from different positions and persepctives.
Stewardship
Commitment in serving others, to emphasise persuasion and openness while reducing control.
