Rites of Passage
Bar/Bat Mitzvah - go to classes to learn about responsibilities, They learn a part of the Torah which they will read out, Relatives are present, there is a party afterwards, now recognised as an adult in the Jewish community.
Brit Milah - 8th day, circumcised, Godfather holds him out while the surgeon (Mohel) carries out the ceremony.
Marriage - huppah, circles round groom, blessing and wine, sip wine, stamp on glass, people shout "Mazel Tov", rabbi say sseven blessings and marriage contract.

Death - body prepared for burial not cremation. Cleansed and dressed in a white cloth. time given for relatives to travel to ceremony, afterwards there is a period called "Shiva" where relatives comfort the mourners.
Origins
Considered Father of Judaism; Canaan (travelled from other side of Euphrates; Hebrews; Sarai; For their forgiveness God granted them a son, Isaac.
God tested Abraham; Kill son. Got to top of Moriah, angel stopped him, replaced with lamb. Hebrews moved back to Canaan.

Synagogue or 'Assembly'
Tefillin - special prayer boxes, Jewish men wear two of them (arm, forehead) They contain the Shema.
Tallit - worn by men over the age of 13 for worship in a synagogue, they drape the shaul over their shoulders. It has tassels on each corner.

Shema - Hebrew prayer, means 'hear'; said daily; placed in a mezuzah case and tefillin.

Talmud or 'study' - contains advice from early Jewish leaders who studied Torah; rules on how to follow the laws and commandments
Tenach - Jewish scriptures; contain 24 books in Hebrew (equivalent of Christian OT); First 6 books contain:
Prophets or 'Nevi'im' - Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah. Ezekiel etc
