Communication
One needs to be able to communicate intent as the means of influencing and needs to be able to adjust / correct courses of action when one sees things are not working (MH)
I also find it important to not only know a lot, but be able to communicate that knowledge in an understandable and engaging way. (PL)
And the logic behind this selection is as follows: any student will memorise more information if the information is delivered in an interesting and involving manner . (RT)
Knowledge about content
In order to teach something to others, the teacher has to know the Subject in specifics , must be one step higher then addressees. from professional point of view and for the benefit of the audience, it is essential to have expertise on the subject. Sometime we have highly experienced lecturers that are really experts in that particular area but they are not able to provide/give that knowledge to students in understandable way, hitting too high. (AD)
I chose the above ten, as they seemed most relevant to who I believe a teacher should be – an engaging expert who motivates students to investigate further. For me, the most important quality to strive for is to be an expert in the field I am teaching; hence the first two behaviours are reflecting knowledge and continuous learning (PL)
In order to involve students and to deliver interesting study-sessions, the teacher must be very knowledgeable about subject matter . (RT)
Adjustable/ flexible
In learning process every student is expecting to receive proper knowledge on understandable level (AD)
teachers must continue their personal development and this is also continuous process and often some as stopping in it considering themselves as experts. Again, the focus is on the teacher as he or she must professional in what is done during educational process and it is asking for constant development to be credible and trusted person . (ZS)
Students perspective
Being an instructor right now I always try to see it from the other side of the table as well and I imagine how me, as student would like to see somebody who has to teach me a new context. (JL)
Throughout my own career, I have taken a number of courses and studies. I know how it feels to be on the other side of classroom. Therefore, I did my choice through the eyes of a student. (RT)
Respect for students
And finally, the last two behaviours I chose were about respect . Being prepared and punctual is in my opinion the cornerstone for showing the students how I value the time I devote on teaching, as well as how I value their time. (PL)
But equally important is respectful attitude towards students. By saying this I don’t mean being tolerant towards everything the students may come up with, but I mean creation of a learning-environment where everyone can feel valued and respected. This encourages everyone’s active involvement and better acquisition of knowledge. (RT)
Feedback, fair grading, impartiality
For Teacher/Educator is very important to maintain impartiality and by doing that to preserve own reputation .(AD)
And the logic behind this selection was my own belief that any person would learn the best from his or her mistakes, or success . Therefore it is almost the utmost importance to correct the mistakes in a proper manner and to praise good work (RT)
This means that he or she must encourage the students even if they are mistaken. But, being flexible and open-minded allows the teacher to set realistic expectations and, with deep knowledge, he or she can build up fair testing and grading system . And can provide timely and constructive feedback. (RT)
The critical elements to enhance such the relations are fairness in grading along with telling openly what was good or bad and how to make it better in the future . If those are implemented the process is beneficial for both sides as education is quite often ‘double way experience’ (ZS)
