The Ontological Argument
-
Criticism: humans too emotionally remote to be capable of proving existence of infinite being; existence is a precondition for realization of all properties NOT a property; overload objection - world would be overloaded w/ perfect ideal objects
-
The Argument from Design
Mindless things act w/ an end in view, must have been created by something with a mind -- God; Everything in nature has a design and God is the designer, order could not have been accident
Anthropic principle: universe fine-tuned for human life/intelligence; if condition for Big Bang had been slightly different, life would not have emerged
Criticism: does not prove God is the one who created all; to assume there is order is too big of an assumption; something must have created order to the agent: paradox
Atheism
No such thing as deity, afterlife, immortal soul

-
Criticism: of problem of evil - small-scale evils to secure long-term good; God does not create evil but gives free will - ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE DOESN'T MEAN IT DNE
