Kyūzō - He initially declined an offer by Kambei to join the group, though he later changes his mind. A serious, stone-faced samurai and a supremely skilled swordsman whom Katsushirō is in awe of.
Heihachi Hayashida - recruited by Gorōbei. An amiable though less-skilled fighter. His charm and wit maintain his comrades' good cheer in the face of adversity.
how he deals with his opponents. “There’s no cutting me off when I start cutting, so I make it a point to run away first,”
Katsushirō Okamoto - a young untested warrior. The son of a wealthy landowner samurai, he left home to become a wandering samurai against his family's wishes.[7] After witnessing Kambei rescue a child who was taken hostage, Katsushirō desires to be Kambei's disciple.
Kikuchiyo - a humorous character who initially claims to be a samurai, he even falsifies his family tree and identity. Eventually however, he proves his worth.
Theme
Duty
Samurai live and die by their duty and their code of honor, by the promises they make and their ability to stand by them.
Identity
The characters in Seven Samurai think of themselves in ways that no longer matter in the world they're living in, and have to find ways to either confirm who they think they are, or redefine themselves. In some ways, the movie is about how well they succeed or fail at that task.
Society and Class
Limitations of classes - farmers, samurais, bandits
Defeat
They've stopped the bandits, but don't get to taste the fruits of victory. That belongs to the peasants.
