Cells of the Connective Tissue
Fixed cells
originate locally from undifferentiated mesenchymal cells and spend all their life in this tissue.
Fibroblast
They are produce and maintain most of the tissue’s extracellular components (fibers and ground substance)
Fat (Adipose) Cells
Adipose cells are connective tissue cells that have become specialized for storage of neutral fats or for the production of heat
Wandering cells
rise from hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow circulate In the blood and then move into C.T. where they remain & perform their functions for a short period as needed and then die by apoptosis
Macrophages
Macrophages are present in most organs & constitute the mononuclear phagocyte system.
Mast cells
storage of chemical mediators of the inflammatory response
Plasma cells
are involved in the synthesis of antibodies.
Leukocytes
The normal connective tissue contains leukocytes.*
Mesenchymal cells
Are unspecified cells capable of differentiation into all the cell types of C.T.
They are branched irregular cells having oval pale nucleus and pale cytoplasm
